Daniel Sudar was born in Central Java, Indonesia from a family with great appreciation for art and food. His late father was a silversmith and his mother is a successful chef with her own catering business. His first exposure to cooking was as a child in his mother’s kitchen. At age seven, he began involved in his mother catering business as well as learning the art of cooking and food presentation. The sense of satisfaction received from watching someone’s pleasure over food drove him to pursue further study in culinary art. After graduating from a cooking school in Indonesia, he attended California Culinary Academy, and graduated in 1997. After a variety of exposures from working with notable chefs, such as: Gary Danko and Silvain Portay at the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton, George Morrone at the One Market Restaurant, and Bruce Hill at The Waterfront Restaurant, Chef Daniel was recognized with a 3 stars from San Francisco Chronicle while he was working at Piaf’s Restaurant. He later became the Corporate Chef at G.P.H Inc to manage Mangiare Cafe and Xebec Bar+Dinning inside Radisson Hotel in Brisbane, then Chef de cuisine at
Betelnut Restaurant with Alex Ong and now the Executive Chef at
Red Lantern Restaurant in Redwood City.
While he is always passionate about the art of cooking in particular and culinary world in general, he is also very intrigued by the art of jewelry making. Not only his late father was a silversmith, but also was his grandfather and his great grandfather. After established his career as a chef, he continues to think about jewelry design. Having designing jewelry on the side, to his own surprise, his designs grew popularity. He later decided to design more jewelry and in 2006, he established Daniel Sudar,LLC. a company specializing in custom jewelry with dynamic look in fine 92.5% pure silver. Each piece is hand crafted and finished with a high polish. His design style is a mix of contemporary, classic and eclectic, each engraved with his “DS” initial.
